SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition App Reviews

Dissapointed with the graphics

the graphics look like crap, especially for a new game. it looks like the game was made back in 95’. Also, they tried way too hard to make the game too complex, I miss the old simple days of sim city where you just build a city connect the power plant and watch as disaster strikes. Now you have to worry about a complicated economy system, government, and all that crap. I wish this was a lot more like the free to play simcity that just came out on iPad, only with out the waiting to build and produce supplies- that’s what I was hopping for with this game, but sadly it doesn’t deliver. And the graphics on the iphone and ipad are much better than this one.

Very Fun! Feels a little old.

I’ve enjoyed this game. I bought it for $10 from the App Store, and it was worth it. You should know this game was made in 2003, and that shows in the 2D graphics. The good news is that it was also a great time for city-building games, and that shows too.

You have got to be kidding me!

This is simcity 3. I asked for a $20.00 itunes gift card specifically for this game and when I got it I noticed it is the stupid previous version>

Graphics and music look like the year 2000. Ew.

I am very disappointed. This game does not look or feel like it was released in 2014.

Crashed on my first attempt to launch immediately after installing it

I just installed the game on my MBP, attempted to launch it and it crashed. It crashes on every re-attempt. Very Disappointed

Unlike the PC version, when drawing roads to an avenue, you are forced to have a traffic light at each intersection. At this time, there seems to be no way around it.

Awesome Game - Blast From The Past

This game is possibly the most phenomenal version of Sim City that ever came out. With the support of the mod community over the years, it’s not hard at all to see why this game is stil so very popular among the Sim Community. Give it a try, you won’t be sorry!!

Longevity is the key...

Here’s the short version folks: I first bought this game for PC in 2003, and played the hell out of it. Added the expansion when it arrived, and played the hell out of it. When I migrated to Mac I re-bought that version, and played the hell out of it. Recently, when I bought my latest Mac, I had to re-buy the Deluxe Edition (no disk), and am still playing the hell out of it (within reason these days. Responsibilities, you know). Suffice to say, I have been playing this for thirteen years, and still enjoy the experience. How many games can boast that record? Its a keeper, basically, and is all I need to say.

Just doesn’t work any more

Used to work. After several uninstalls and reinstalls and communication with the support crew - no resolution to getting the game working again. On a macbook pro with lots of everything - and an ssd drive to boot. Game comes up with no controls working! Can’t play the game basically. Disappointing to say the least. Won’t buy the new one for sure. Sounds like they’ve changed it all for the worst. Wasted $20 on this one….definitely won’t spend another $40 on yet another one that will likely fail as well. Bummer - I used to enjoy this game quite a lot! I don’t advise trying it unless you have money to waste - as well as a lot of patience and time - likely to no resolution if you have problems.

Finally SimCity done right

I was skeptical when I clicked the Buy button, but I have no regrets about re-buying SimCity 4. When I had the original version it was a terrible port that was almost unplayable once cities grew to medium size. The app is lightning fast with all graphics optioned enabled. I’m having a blast, especially with the Rush Hour additions that I never had before. Thanks Aspyr for finally coming through!

A complete waste of money

This game may look interesting and fun from the pictures, but all it is a complete waste of money. I have played SimCity in the past, and loved it. I decided to get it for my computer. I did not like it one bit. From the bad instructions and controls, to the high expense of the game, I would rate this game 1 star. If you decide to by this game, be my guest, but I’ll say, “I told you so,” when you find out the game is disappointing. Also, not only was it a complete waste of money, but also it was a complete waste of time.

Great Game

I love playing this game. Great Sim game.

Just like I remember

So happy this is available for mac. Exactly like I remember. Haven’t tried using mods yet, hopefully the work. Magic mouse is too touchy to zoom but works for everything else. I also can’t figure out how to change orientation of buildings since there is no “home” button on the mac. Perhaps I should read the instructions :-)

Good for light modding, but not nearly as good as the Windows version

I’ve been playing Sim City 4 since it first came out in 2003, and in the last year I started adding user-created buildings to it since it made the game even better. I bought this version expecting to be able to have the same experience as the Windows version, however there are a few catches. It is significantly more stable than the Windows version in that if left completely unmodified and even with a gigabyte or two of user-created content, you don’t experience any Crash-To-Desktop(CTD’s) or having to Force-quit the application. However, unlike the Windows version, you cannot have more than ~2.5GB of user-created content without the game not working at all, which makes me very sad since this is the perfect pick-up-and-go kind of game for when you’re in the airport or goofing of in class. I wish Aspyr would resolve these issues so that Mac users could enjoy the game as much as Windows users can.

Much better than SC 2013 (EA get your act together)

I much prefer this game to it’s sequel, SimCity 2013, which has tiny maps, not much to do, a lying game engine, and was always-online until March of 2014; whereas this game can have HUUUGE maps, lots to do, and overall great design. TL;DR: if you want a SimCity game, get this one.

Well done

I think the team that did this port did a great job. I’m really glad to see SimCity 4 for the modern Mac.

BEWARE

The latest update puts a lot of technologies in the Sandbox mode unavailable. It says that there “not available in BETA”. Never had this problem before the update. I wish I had not downloaded it. Now I’m stuck with an expensive (relative to the App Store) game that I can;t enjoy. I want my money back!

Runs perfect! So much better than the first Aspyre port!

I had this originally for Windows, then when I moved to Mac with my G5 I bought it again. Aspyre did a crap job on the port, plus the “update”for Intel Macs was just as bad. So I had given up hope for the Mac version, installed Windows via BootCamp, and played there. Then I saw this newly redone version, and gambled, but WOW does it run beautifully on both my late 2014 MacMini i7 and my 2009 MacBook Pro. I have had no problems at all, and the mods I have (NAM and a couple others) run beautifully once I figured out I had to Show Package Contents on the App to get to the Plug-Ins folder. Now I play it every day, and can once again nerd out creating mega cities. Right now I have one at 1.4 million and one at 3.7 million, have one region filled completely, and have started another today.

I hate this

This is not what I wanted at all. Is there any way to get my money back or get a different program?

Crashes at opening EA doesn’t care...

The app crashes every time that it is opened. Spent an hour with EA customer care with no solution. They said sorry and they could not help. Money down the drain.
