SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition App Reviews

Satisfactory!

Works fine on 10.8.5. Old but gold! I recommend this game to anyone who is looking to kill some time. Its like a virtual garden, but with buildings. Recommend playing on medium settings for a balance of performance and aesthetics. 4/5! 1 star off because the game is not perfect, the only problem with it is it may freeze or crash at times (rare but possible), but that is why you save. It is either my mac that is the problem or the game regarding the crashing, otherwise its a satisfying purchase!

Great

Love this game, about time it made it to Mac.

Excellent version

This seemed to come out of absolutely nowhere, but I cant recommend it any more if you have any interest in the series. A fantastic facelift! Makes the whole experience feel fresh. Though I do actually enjoy Sim City 2013, the lack of widescreen native resolution support on 27" iMacs in that version make it very easy to recommend this version over it. Beautiful port.

Crashes

everytime I go to open the app it crashes and iv’e send numerous reports to apple on it and it still isn’t resolved, I hope that I am not the only one having this issue because i new think I just threw $19.99 away, Please get in touch with apple and fix this issue.

Fine implementation of an engrossing simulation

For $20 the game offers countless hours of engrossing fun and challenge. Having last played Sim City on a PC years ago this Mac version seems very thoroughly-featured and operates without hiccup on a 2013 Macbook. I have a couple of complaints. It comes with a good set of interactive tutorials to get the player started, but not much else in the way of help or reference information. Therefore, if there is a way to Undo mistakes - my #1 complaint - I can’t find it. It’s too easy to accidentally drop an expensive structure onto something-else-expensive (destroying it). If there is a way to reverse such accidents, I haven’t found it. If it’s not there, the game would be improved by an opportunity to Undo the last thing done. Ctrl-Z would be nice!

Great - 4.5/5

Since I downloaded this two days ago, I’ve probably spent 16 hours playing it—easily worth the $20. Great graphics and smooth gameplay even without a true 3D card (2012 13” Macbook Pro on a 1680x1050 screen). Taking a half-star off due to minor user interface annoyances, and because it crashed twice, though both times were after a marathon 4 or 5 hours of playing… but that’s why there’s a Save button, right?

A classic that runs well.

Wow! I forgot how much I enjoy playing this game! It runs well and seems to have all the functionality I remeber. I kinda wish the would have updates the graphics for retina displays at the highest zoom level. However it fills the screen nicely when played in full screen mode, and a touch track pad works great with it! Just looking for some sim tower now! :) Dave

Great game!

I’m a Simcity fan and so glad to see this finally come to OS X! :))) *ADD CHINESE LANGUAGE PLZZZZ*

Okay

This game is great it plays great and is fun the graphics are a bit dated but they look great. my only problem is whenever I save a city and come back my save is gone

Excellent product, but nothing new.

This game is excellent, though it was originally released back around 2004. Having been the owner of the original SimCity 4 with the expansion pack for PC, I find that this version is nothing new besides the soundtracks. In addition, the game lags on the new MacBook Pro with Retina display (15.4’’) - since they still have not optimizied the game for multiple cores. Apart from all this, there are still all the wonderful gameplay elements that have been craved in a city building game. Unlike SimCity 5 you can have large cities, but the graphics are rather poor for this age. In conclusion, for $10 it’s a good buy but it’s outdated and needs an update.

Fun for a while but poor graphics take away from it.

The lack of Retina support makes it feel more retro than it should be.

Crashes on launch.

Splendid game, but could crash once in a while

This mac version is splendid. It reminds me of the happy time spent on previous versions when I was still young. The visual is nice and fits perfectly with the retina display. The only problem is that the game can crash sometimes and I’ve lost quite a lot of progress one time. Now I save the game quite often. I’d be nice if there is an automatic save option.

Perfect Port

I had this game for Microsoft Windows, and was sad that I could not get it for Mac OS X. Fortunately, this game is a perfect copy of the Windows version, except without the graphical bugs! I am so glad, I just wish it was a bit higher quality, as it is showing its age on the Retina display.

Terrible graphics

…save your money

Cities have gone!

I remembered how I enjoyed this game on Windows several years ago. This game reminds me the excitement at that time. However, on this Mac app version, city datas disappear very often. Save a city, go back to the region, then the city is gone! I really cannot play this game. Please fix the bug asap.

Yay

Was so Happy when i saw this was for mac again! cause the new was I didn’t like as much. This is the best sim city ou there i think! :)

Amazing game

This game has been one of my favourites since it came out. I was so pleased when they finally released it on the Mac App store. I just wish some bugs could be worked out. For example: Industrial sounds coming out of residential areas. Other than that, it’s a fantastic game!

Not mac friendly

Is definitely fun and improved, but there are a few features that still are quite archaic, as the use of keyboard letters to drive rather than using arrows. Also is not really mac friendly, which I’m surprised as it is supposed to be a mac app (the keypad gestures won’t work). I look forward to a truly mac friendly version. Sigh!

Even better than you remember

Well worth the 20 bucks.
